      Buying Knives in Australia

Magnum Sports stocks close to 270 knives, all available today: Spanish-made Nieto hunting and skinning knives (our largest range), Condor bush and machete-style blades, Havalon replaceable-blade skinners, Schrade and CRKT folders and fixed blades, Spika pig stickers and bushcraft knives, German Puma and F. Dick butchery sets, Kershaw, Outdoor Edge and Ridgeline field knives, plus sharpeners and sheaths.

Knives are not firearms and need no licence, but in NSW it is an offence to carry a knife in a public place or school without a reasonable excuse; hunting, fishing, farm work and lawful sporting use are reasonable excuses, self-defence is not. Keep hunting knives packed away when travelling and carry them only in the field.

For deer and pig hunters we recommend a 90 to 120 mm drop-point fixed blade for skinning and boning, a stouter sticker for pigs, and a Havalon or Outdoor Edge replaceable-blade knife if you do not want to sharpen in the field. Folders start at $6, most hunting knives sit between $60 and $200, and collector-grade Puma and custom pieces run to $6,225.

      Common questions

What is the best knife for skinning deer?
A 90 to 120 mm fixed drop-point or trailing-point blade in a stainless or high-carbon steel, with a comfortable handle that grips when wet: a Nieto Cazador, Schrade Isolate or Spika Bushmaster are good examples. If you would rather swap blades than sharpen in the field, a Havalon Piranta or Outdoor Edge replaceable-blade skinner is the choice of many guides.
Is it legal to carry a hunting knife in NSW?
You can own and buy hunting knives without a licence, but you may only carry a knife in a public place with a reasonable excuse, such as travelling to or from a hunt, fishing, farm or trade work, or a lawful sporting activity. Self-defence is specifically not a reasonable excuse. Store the knife in your pack or vehicle when not in use.
What is a pig sticker knife?
A long, narrow fixed blade of 150 to 250 mm with a strong point and a guard, used by dogging and bow hunters to dispatch pigs quickly. Spika, Nieto and Ridgeline stickers are stocked, and we recommend a full-tang blade with a sheath that locks.
Which knife brands does Magnum Sports stock?
Nieto from Albacete in Spain is our largest range, alongside Condor, Havalon, Schrade, CRKT, Kershaw, Spika, Puma, F. Dick, Outdoor Edge, Ridgeline, Cold Steel and Buck, plus Warthog and Lansky sharpeners. All knives ship Australia-wide.
Do you sell knife sets for butchering game?
Yes. F. Dick three-piece hunting and deboning sets, Spika Fieldcraft knife rolls, Outdoor Edge game processing kits and Nieto skinner and boner pairs are stocked, from about $99 to $300, and suit hunters who process their own venison and pork.
