MDT

Buying MDT in Australia

Magnum Sports stocks MDT (Modular Driven Technologies) precision rifle hardware from Canada: the Field Stock and chassis systems for Remington 700, Tikka T3x, Howa 1500 and other common actions, AICS-pattern metal and polymer magazines in 3, 5 and 10 round capacities, CORE bottom metal, the GRND-POD, ORYX, Backcountry and CKYE-POD bipods, pistol grips, vertical grips, bolt knobs, ARCA rails and scope mounts.

A chassis or MDT stock does not change a rifle's licence category, so a Remington 700, Tikka T3x or Howa fitted with MDT hardware stays Category B in NSW; magazine capacity must comply with the current NSW limits for Category B rifles, and our 10-round AICS magazines are sold on that basis. None of the accessories require a licence to buy.

MDT magazines start at $29, the Field Stock is $439, bipods run from $171 (ORYX) to $816 (CKYE-POD Gen3), and grips and rails from $32. Grips, the M-LOK ARCA rail, the Field Stock and several bipods are on the shelf; chassis systems and specific magazine fits are ordered in from the distributor within a week or two.

      Common questions

Which rifles do MDT chassis fit?
MDT builds chassis and stocks for the Remington 700 short and long action footprint (which also covers Bergara, Christensen and most custom actions), Tikka T3x, Howa 1500, Savage, Ruger American and others. Tell us the action and we will confirm the fit and the magazine it takes.
Are 10-round AICS magazines legal in NSW?
Magazine capacity for Category B rifles is now limited under the 2026 NSW reforms; we sell AICS magazines in 3, 5 and 10 round capacities and will confirm which is compliant for your licence before you order. Check the current NSW Police guidance, as the regulations are still being finalised.
How much is an MDT chassis in Australia?
The MDT Field Stock is $439 at Magnum Sports; full chassis systems such as the LSS, XRS and HNT are ordered in from the distributor and priced on request. MDT magazines are $29 to $104, bipods $171 to $816 and grips from $32.
Does a chassis change the licence category of my rifle?
No. A bolt-action rifle in an MDT chassis remains a Category B firearm in NSW. The chassis, magazines and bipods themselves need no licence to purchase.
Can you fit an MDT chassis for me?
Yes. Bring the rifle and licence in and we will fit the chassis, bottom metal and magazine, torque the action screws and bore-sight the scope. Allow a day or two for the work.
