Buying Federal in Australia

Magnum Sports lists about 395 Federal lines with around 230 available today: 360 ammunition products across rifle, rimfire, handgun and shotgun, plus Federal primers, brass and a handful of accessories. The range covers Power-Shok and Fusion hunting loads, Premium Terminal Ascent, Trophy Copper and Nosler Partition loads, Gold Medal match ammunition, American Eagle and Champion practice loads, Punch and HST handgun loads, Champion and Hunter Match .22 LR and Federal shotshells for game and clays.

A quarter of the range is under $56 a box, half is under $97 and the dearest lines are premium magnum hunting loads and bulk packs. Because NSW dealers may only sell ammunition to the holder of a licence for a firearm of that calibre, Federal ammunition and primers are collection-only from our Roseville Chase store: order online or by phone, bring your licence and we will have it ready at the counter.

The most-bought Federal loads on our shelves are Power-Shok .223 55gr and .308 150gr, Fusion .308 165gr and 6.5 Creedmoor 140gr, Premium Terminal Ascent in .270 and .300 Win Mag, Gold Medal 168gr and 175gr .308 for target work and Champion .22 LR bulk packs for rimfire practice.

      Can I buy Federal ammunition online in Australia?
      You can order it online from Magnum Sports, but under NSW law ammunition may only be handed to the holder of a licence for a firearm of that calibre, so it is collected from our Roseville Chase store. We do not post ammunition.
      Which Federal ammunition is best for deer?
      Fusion is the go-to bonded load for red, fallow and sambar in .308, .270, 6.5 Creedmoor and .30-06; Premium Terminal Ascent and Trophy Copper suit longer shots and lead-free areas; Power-Shok soft points are the value choice for goats, pigs and smaller deer inside 200 metres.
      Is Federal Power-Shok good ammunition?
      Yes. Power-Shok is Federal's standard soft-point hunting line, accurate in most factory rifles and one of the best-value centrefire loads in Australia at $50 to $70 a box of 20. Step up to Fusion for bonded performance on larger game.
      Do you stock Federal primers?
      Yes, Federal large and small rifle, pistol, magnum and Gold Medal match primers. Like ammunition, primers are collection-only from our Sydney store and require a firearms licence.
      What Federal .22 ammunition do you have?
      Champion and Federal AutoMatch bulk packs for practice, Hunter Match and Punch 22 for hunting and Gold Medal for target work, from about $10 a box of 50 for a licence holder collecting in store.
