Pick the magnification for the country you shoot, not the spec sheet. Thick scrub and running pigs suit a 1-6x or 2-10x with a wide field of view. General hunting is well covered by 3-9x40 or 3-15x44. Open country and long-range work want 4-24x or 5-25x with a first focal plane reticle so your holds stay true at any magnification. Second focal plane remains the better choice for hunters who dial rather than hold.
