What is the best rifle scope for hunting in Australia?
For a general deer and pig rifle a 3-9x40, 2-10x42 or 3-12x44 with a duplex or illuminated reticle is the sweet spot: Leupold VX-3HD and VX-5HD, Zeiss Conquest V4, GPO Passion, Zerotech Thrive HD and Hawke Endurance are the ones we sell most. For foxes and goats at range choose a 4-16x or 6-24x with side parallax, and for scrub pigs or a lever action a 1-6x or 1-8x.
How much should I spend on a rifle scope?
A sound rule is a third to half the price of the rifle. Under $500 buys a reliable Hawke, Zerotech, Nikko Stirling or Bushnell hunting scope; $600 to $1,500 buys Leupold, GPO, Burris, Sightron or Steiner glass that will outlast the rifle; above $2,000 you are paying for Zeiss, Kahles, Swarovski and Steiner clarity at last light and for precision turrets.

Yes. Every scope bought with a rifle at Magnum Sports is fitted, levelled and bore-sighted at no charge, and we fit scopes to rifles you already own for a small fee. Bring the rifle and licence into the store at Roseville Chase.
First focal plane or second focal plane?
Second focal plane (SFP) keeps the reticle the same size at every magnification and is best for hunting scopes where you shoot at the top or bottom of the range. First focal plane (FFP) scales the reticle with magnification so holdovers and ranging marks are correct at any power, which is what long-range and PRS shooters want. Most scopes under $1,000 are SFP.
