      Common questions

Which Leupold scope is best for hunting in Australia?
For deer, pigs and goats out to 300 metres the VX-Freedom 3-9x40 ($814) or VX-3HD 3.5-10x40 ($1,291) are the most popular on our shelves. Hunters shooting further or in low light step up to the VX-5HD 3-15x44 ($2,233) or a 50 mm objective model, and the VX-6HD Gen2 ($4,460 and up) is the top hunting line.
What is the difference between Leupold VX-Freedom, VX-3HD and VX-5HD?
VX-Freedom is the entry line with a 1-inch tube and second-focal-plane reticles. VX-3HD adds the Elite Optical System glass, the ZeroLock CDS dial and better low-light performance. VX-5HD moves to a 30 mm tube, 5x zoom ratio, side focus and the CDS-ZL2 dial for dialling long-range shots. Mark 4HD and Mark 5HD are the tactical and long-range lines with first-focal-plane reticles.
Do I need a licence to buy a Leupold scope or binoculars?
No. Riflescopes, binoculars, spotting scopes, rangefinders and mounts do not require a firearms licence in any Australian state and we post them Australia-wide.
Which Leupold rings and bases fit my rifle?
We stock 179 Leupold mounting products: Backcountry and QR rings and bases for Tikka T3x, Sako, Remington 700, Howa 1500, Ruger American and Savage, Mark 4 rings for Picatinny rails, and STD and Rifleman systems for older rifles. Tell us the rifle and objective size and we will pick the ring height.
How much do Leupold binoculars cost?
      BX-1 Rogue 8x25 from $196, BX-1 McKenzie HD 8x42 $381 and 10x42 $410, BX-2 Alpine HD 10x42 $513, BX-4 Pro Guide HD from $1,164, BX-5 Santiam HD 10x50 $2,462 and the rangefinding BX-6 Range HD 10x42 $8,795 (September 2026 prices).
