Buying Remington in Australia

Magnum Sports carries the Remington range sold in Australia: the Model 700 in ADL, SPS, BDL, CDL, Varmint, Long Range, Sendero and Alpha 1 Hunter form, the 783 budget bolt action and scope packages, the 870 Fieldmaster and Tactical pump-action shotguns and the 1100 Sporting semi-auto for Category C holders, the Marlin 444 lever action, and more than 60 lines of Remington ammunition including Core-Lokt, UMC, Golden Bullet and Thunderbolt rimfire.

The Model 700 and 783 are bolt-action centrefires and Category B in NSW; the 870 and 1100 are Category C, which is limited to primary producers and other approved genuine reasons under the 2026 reforms. Every firearm needs a Permit to Acquire and compliant storage.

Rifles start at $1,040 for the 783 and $1,260 for the 700 ADL, with the 700 SPS at $1,657, CDL $2,371, BDL $2,428 and Alpha 1 Hunter $3,970. Ten Remington firearms are available today, including the 783, 700 SPS, SPS Stainless, CDL, BDL and Alpha 1 Hunter and the 870 Fieldmaster Synthetic; the rest are ordered in. Remington ammunition is on the shelf in most common hunting calibres.

      Remington 700 or 783: which should I buy?
      The 783 ($1,040 to $1,150) is the budget rifle: adjustable trigger, detachable magazine, plenty accurate for hunting, and available as a scope package. The 700 ($1,260 up) has the cylindrical action that the whole aftermarket is built around, better finish and resale, and far more variants. Buy the 783 for a first deer rifle on a budget, the 700 if you plan to upgrade stocks, triggers or barrels later.
      What licence category is a Remington 870 in NSW?
      The 870 is a pump-action shotgun and therefore Category C, limited in NSW to primary producers and other approved genuine reasons. The Model 700 and 783 bolt actions are Category B, and the 1100 Sporting semi-auto is Category C.
