Buying Glock in Australia

Magnum Sports is a Glock dealer in Sydney, stocking the models sold in Australia through the official importer NIOA: the Glock 17, 17L and 34 for IPSC and service matches, the Glock 19 and 26 compacts, the slimline 43X and 48, the Glock 44 in .22 LR for club rimfire events, and the .45 ACP and 10mm Glock 21, 30 and 29 for approved large-calibre disciplines. Most are available in Gen4 and Gen5, and all come with the 10-round magazines required for sport shooting in NSW.

A Glock is a Category H firearm in every Australian state. You need a pistol licence obtained through an approved club, a Permit to Acquire for each pistol and a bolted steel safe; NSW probationary licence holders cannot acquire a centrefire pistol until the second six months of their licence. The 9mm models (17, 19, 26, 34, 43X, 48) sit inside the .38-calibre limit for general sport shooting, while the .45 and 10mm models need a large-calibre pistol permit tied to an approved competition.

      How much does a Glock cost in Australia?
      At Magnum Sports the Glock 17 Gen5 and Glock 19 Gen5 are $1,365, Gen4 models such as the 17, 19 and 26 are $1,223, the Glock 43X is $1,251, the Glock 34 Gen5 is $1,786 and the Glock 44 in .22 LR is $1,093 (September 2026 prices). A Category H licence, club membership and a Permit to Acquire are required.
      Can I own a Glock in Australia?
      Yes, with a Category H (pistol) licence, which in every state requires membership of an approved pistol club and is issued for sport or target shooting, plus a Permit to Acquire for each pistol. Glocks are not available for self-defence in Australia. Semi-automatic pistols must have a barrel of at least 120 mm and a magazine capacity of no more than 10 rounds.
      Which Glock is best for IPSC or club shooting?
      The Glock 17 and 34 are the standard choices for IPSC Production and service matches: full-size grip, 9mm, 10-round magazines and a long sight radius on the 34. The Glock 19 suits shooters with smaller hands and doubles for club events. The Glock 44 (.22 LR) is the cheapest way to shoot a lot of club rounds.
      What is the difference between Glock Gen4 and Gen5?
      Gen5 pistols drop the finger grooves, add an ambidextrous slide stop, a flared magazine well, the Glock Marksman Barrel and the harder nDLC finish. Gen4 pistols remain in the range at about $140 less and share magazines with Gen5 (Gen5 magazines have an orange follower and work in both).
      Can a NSW probationary pistol licence holder buy a Glock?
      Not in the first six months of the probationary licence. In the second six months you may apply for up to two Permits to Acquire, which can include one centrefire pistol such as a 9mm Glock 17 or 19, subject to your club's endorsement.
