Firearms Safety Course: study guide and downloads
Read the booklet before your session. The theory test is closed-book and is drawn from the sections marked essential.
Downloads
- Firearms and Hunting Safety (Long-arms) Course booklet (PDF, 3 MB). Published by NSW DPI, June 2017, and reproduced here with attribution to NSW DPI as the owner. Sections 2, 3 and 4 carry the essential criteria; each ends with a self-test, and the answers are at the back.
- P650 declaration form (NSW Police Firearms Registry). Complete Sections A and B at home, bring it with you and sign it in front of the instructor.
- Firearms (Longarms) User Guide: rights, wrongs and responsibilities (NSW Police). Background reading on storage, transport and licence conditions.
Online pre-test
Once you have booked, your order confirmation carries a link to our online pre-test: 30 multiple-choice questions in the same format as the assessment (10 for minors), with the booklet section to re-read for anything you miss. Sit it as many times as you like; your instructor sees your best result before the session. The pre-test is preparation. The assessed theory test is sat with the instructor on the day.
