Firearms Safety Course: what to bring on the day
Sessions run at Magnum Sports, 19 Babbage Road, Roseville Chase. Arrive 15 minutes before your confirmed start time.
Bring
- Government photo ID: a driver licence or passport showing your name, date of birth and address. Without it the instructor cannot let you take part; this is a Firearms Registry requirement.
- Your P650 declaration, completed but not yet signed. You sign it in front of the instructor.
- Your order confirmation, on your phone is fine.
- Reading glasses if you use them. The theory test is on paper.
- Enclosed shoes and clothing you can move in. Hearing and eye protection are supplied.
Minors aged 12 to 17
- A parent or legal guardian must attend, sign the P650 and stay for the session.
- Bring the parent or guardian's photo ID and the minor's birth certificate or photo ID.
What happens
- ID and P650 check with the instructor.
- Theory review, then the closed-book test: 30 questions, pass mark 25 (minors: 10 questions, pass mark 7). You must pass the theory before the practical.
- Practical handling assessment, one-on-one with the instructor, covering a bolt-action rifle, a break-action shotgun and a lever or pump action. Ammunition stays under the instructor's control at all times.
- Certificate of Firearms Safety Awareness issued on a pass.
Please do not
- Drink alcohol beforehand. Anyone affected by alcohol or drugs will not handle a firearm and will not be able to complete the session.
- Bring your own firearm or ammunition. Everything is supplied.
