Firearms Safety Course: what to bring on the day

Sessions run at Magnum Sports, 19 Babbage Road, Roseville Chase. Arrive 15 minutes before your confirmed start time.

Bring

  • Government photo ID: a driver licence or passport showing your name, date of birth and address. Without it the instructor cannot let you take part; this is a Firearms Registry requirement.
  • Your P650 declaration, completed but not yet signed. You sign it in front of the instructor.
  • Your order confirmation, on your phone is fine.
  • Reading glasses if you use them. The theory test is on paper.
  • Enclosed shoes and clothing you can move in. Hearing and eye protection are supplied.

Minors aged 12 to 17

  • A parent or legal guardian must attend, sign the P650 and stay for the session.
  • Bring the parent or guardian's photo ID and the minor's birth certificate or photo ID.

What happens

  1. ID and P650 check with the instructor.
  2. Theory review, then the closed-book test: 30 questions, pass mark 25 (minors: 10 questions, pass mark 7). You must pass the theory before the practical.
  3. Practical handling assessment, one-on-one with the instructor, covering a bolt-action rifle, a break-action shotgun and a lever or pump action. Ammunition stays under the instructor's control at all times.
  4. Certificate of Firearms Safety Awareness issued on a pass.

Please do not

  • Drink alcohol beforehand. Anyone affected by alcohol or drugs will not handle a firearm and will not be able to complete the session.
  • Bring your own firearm or ammunition. Everything is supplied.
