Common questions
What size scope rings do I need?
Match the ring to the scope's main tube: 1 inch (25.4 mm) on most hunting scopes, 30 mm on most modern and tactical scopes, 34 mm on high-end long-range scopes. Then choose a height that gives a few millimetres of clearance between the objective bell and the barrel; low rings suit objectives up to about 42 mm, medium 44 to 50 mm and high 50 to 56 mm, depending on the action.
Which mounts fit a Tikka T3x?
The Tikka T3 and T3x have an integral 17 mm dovetail, so you can use Tikka's own Optilock rings, Talley lightweight ringmounts or Warne rings made for the Tikka dovetail, or fit a Picatinny base (Talley, Warne or Tikka factory) and use standard Picatinny rings. For a T1x rimfire the same dovetail applies.
Are Talley lightweight ringmounts any good?
They are among the most popular hunting mounts we sell: a one-piece alloy ring and base machined for a specific action, so there is no separate base to loosen, and a pair weighs about 60 to 80 grams. They are made for Remington 700, Tikka, Howa, Weatherby, Winchester, Browning, Savage, Marlin and many other actions, and cost $111 to $134.
What is a QD or pivot mount and do I need one?
A quick-detach or pivot mount lets you remove or swing a thermal, night vision or day scope and return it to zero without tools. They cost more (Rusan and Spuhr from about $400) but are worth it if you swap a thermal scope between rifles or take a day scope off for night pest control.
Can Magnum Sports fit and zero my scope?
Yes. Buy the scope and mounts from us and we will fit, level and torque the mount to spec and bore-sight it in store at Roseville Chase, and we can arrange live-fire zeroing. Mounts and rings ship Australia-wide with standard delivery if you prefer to fit them yourself.
