These high-profile cases, among others, reveal deep deficiencies in licensing checks, firearm registration and tracking, information-sharing with police and counter-terrorism agencies, and overall enforcement of firearms legislation. Responsible firearm owners are often subject to poor decision-making by the Firearms Registry, as demonstrated by revocation decisions being frequently overturned by the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT), and endure significant financial and emotional stress as a result. The people of New South Wales request that the House establish a parliamentary inquiry into the Firearms Registry to examine its fitness to administer firearms legislation, including its systems, decisions, resourcing, governance, and information-sharing, and to report on necessary reforms.
