The Hornady 44 calibre 265 gr FTX is a hunting projectile for large game including sambar, red deer and scrub bulls. It measures .430" in diameter with a G1 ballistic coefficient of .225, and it suits lever-action and handgun shooters who want a tipped bullet that is safe in a tubular magazine. Hornady lists this weight for the 444 Marlin.

The FTX changed lever-gun ballistics by putting a soft, patented Flex Tip on a spitzer-style bullet. The tip will not set off the primer of the round ahead of it in a tubular magazine, yet on impact it compresses into the bullet to start expansion across a wide velocity range. A one-piece high-antimony lead core is mechanically locked to a specially designed jacket by the InterLock ring for weight retention and deep penetration, and the secant ogive gives a flatter trajectory than a flat-nose bullet.
