For the black-powder shooter running a 54 calibre muzzleloader, these Hornady .535" lead round balls give a uniform, swaged projectile rather than a home-cast one. Hornady cold-swages them from pure lead, which removes the air pockets and voids that cast balls often carry.

Because each ball is swaged rather than poured, the diameter, weight and roundness are held uniform across the box, and the smoother surface takes the patch evenly for better rotation and more consistent groups. Pure lead keeps the ball soft enough to obturate in a traditional bore. Before you choose a diameter, check the bore of your firearm and whether you load a patched ball or a compression fit, as the two call for different sizes.
