Handloaders chasing accuracy in 300 Rem SA Ultra Mag use this Hornady modified case with the Lock-N-Load OAL gauge to find the bullet-to-lands length of their own chamber, then set seating depth from a measured number rather than a guess.

Each modified case is a real case made to SAAMI dimensions, threaded at the head to screw onto the gauge and with the neck opened up about .002" so the bullet slides freely. Push the bullet forward until it stops against the lands, lock the gauge and measure with a bullet comparator to read a true base-to-ogive length. A few thousandths of change in jump can be the difference between average and very good groups. Fits both the straight and curved OAL gauges.
