Hornady makes this modified case in 17 Hornet for its Lock-N-Load OAL gauge, the tool precision shooters use to measure how far a bullet must be seated to touch or jump the rifling in their 17 Hornet barrel.

Each modified case is a real case made to SAAMI dimensions, threaded at the head to screw onto the gauge and with the neck opened up about .002" so the bullet slides freely. Push the bullet forward until it stops against the lands, lock the gauge and measure with a bullet comparator to read a true base-to-ogive length. A few thousandths of change in jump can be the difference between average and very good groups. Fits both the straight and curved OAL gauges. This case is supplied with the adaptor it needs to fit the gauge.
