Buying Mossberg in Australia

Magnum Sports lists 25 Mossberg firearms: the Patriot bolt-action centrefires (Synthetic, Cerakote, Predator, Walnut, Bantam and Revere), the 802 Plinkster and 817 rimfires, the MVP series that feeds from AR-pattern magazines (Patrol, Scout, Predator, Long Range and Precision), the 500 and 590 pump-action shotguns, the 940 JM Pro competition semi-auto and the International Silver Reserve over-and-under.

In NSW the Patriot, MVP and 802/817 bolt actions are Category B (Category A for the rimfires) and the Silver Reserve over-and-under is Category A. The 500, 590 and 940 are pump-action and self-loading shotguns and therefore Category C, limited to primary producers and other approved genuine reasons. Mossberg is the value brand of American gunmaking: a Patriot Synthetic is $718 and a Patriot Predator $778, making them among the cheapest centrefire hunting rifles we sell.

      Can I buy a Mossberg 500 in Australia?
      Only with a Category C licence, which in NSW is generally limited to primary producers and approved occupational shooters; pump-action shotguns are not available to recreational hunters or clay target shooters. The 500 Hunting All Purpose Field is $824 and the 500 ATI Tactical $1,152 to $1,201 in the five-round configuration.
      How much is a Mossberg Patriot in Australia?
      At Magnum Sports the Patriot Synthetic is $718, the Patriot Cerakote and Synthetic Cerakote $773, the Predator FDE $778, the Predator Cerakote $889, the Walnut $910, the Bantam $915 and the Revere $1,303 (September 2026).
      Is the Mossberg Patriot a good hunting rifle?
      For the money, yes. It has an adjustable trigger, fluted barrel, detachable magazine and comes in .223, .243, .270, 6.5 Creedmoor, .308 and .30-06. It will not match a Tikka or Sako for finish, but for a first deer or pig rifle under $800 it is hard to beat.
