Buying Red Dots & Reflex Scopes in Australia

Magnum Sports lists close to 190 red dot and reflex sights with around 80 available today, from Holosun (our largest range), Aimpoint, Burris, Leupold, SIG Sauer, Bushnell, Delta Optical, Zerotech, Hawke and Vortex. The range covers open reflex sights for pistol slides, enclosed micro dots such as the Aimpoint Micro and Acro, tube-style dots for shotguns and lever guns, prism sights and magnifier combos.

Red dots need no licence and ship Australia-wide. Club pistol shooters use slide-mounted dots (Holosun 507 and 407, Leupold DeltaPoint, Aimpoint Acro, SIG Romeo) in the optics divisions of IPSC, IDPA and Steel Challenge; hunters put tube or open dots on lever-action rifles, straight-pulls, shotguns for pigs at night and air rifles, and a 3x magnifier turns a dot into a short-range scope.

Check the mounting footprint before you buy: pistol slides are cut for RMR, Shield RMSc, DeltaPoint Pro or Acro patterns, and rifles need a Picatinny or 11 mm dovetail base. A Bushnell TRS-25 starts at $219, Burris FastFire and Holosun open dots sit between $400 and $930, Aimpoint Micro and Acro are $950 to $1,100, Leupold DeltaPoint Pro is $1,012 and enclosed premium dots run to $2,650.

      • PricesRed dots from $219 for a Bushnell TRS-25; most Holosun, Burris and Leupold models between $400 and $1,050, and the median dot available today is about $820, with premium enclosed dots up to $2,650.

      Common questions

Do I need a licence to buy a red dot sight in Australia?
No. Red dot and reflex sights are optics, not firearms or firearm parts, so anyone can buy one and we ship them Australia-wide. Only laser sights are restricted in NSW; a red dot projects the dot inside the sight window, not onto the target.
What red dot fits my pistol slide?
It depends on the footprint your slide is cut for: Trijicon RMR (Holosun 507C, 407C and 507 Comp, Burris FastFire), Shield RMSc (Holosun 407K and 507K, Bushnell RXU), DeltaPoint Pro (Leupold DPP, Bushnell RXM300) or Aimpoint Acro. Glock MOS and Walther PDP use adapter plates, and CZ Shadow 2 OR comes with plates; tell us the pistol and we will match it.
Holosun or Aimpoint: which should I buy?
Aimpoint Micro and Acro are the benchmark for durability and battery life and cost $950 to $1,100. Holosun offers solar backup, multi-reticle and shake-awake at $400 to $930 and is what most club shooters and hunters now buy. For a competition pistol where a failure costs a match, spend more; for a shotgun or lever gun a Holosun 510C or 403 is excellent value.
What red dot suits a lever-action or shotgun for pig hunting?
A tube dot or open reflex with a 2 to 3 MOA dot, night-vision compatible settings if you hunt under a spotlight or NV, and a Picatinny or receiver mount: Holosun 510C ($725), Aimpoint Micro H-2 ($1,099) or Bushnell TRS-25 ($219) on a budget. Add a 3x magnifier if you shoot past 100 metres.
Does Magnum Sports fit red dots to pistols?
Yes. Our gunsmith counter at Roseville Chase can fit plates and dots to optics-ready slides and mount and zero dots on rifles and shotguns; slide milling for non-optics-ready pistols is quoted on request. Dots also ship Australia-wide if you prefer to fit your own.
