Buying Shotgun Ammo in Australia

Magnum Sports keeps 47 lines of shotgun ammunition on the shelf: 12 gauge clay target loads from Trust, RC, Winchester Super Target and SAGA by the slab of 250, 12 gauge field and pest loads from Winchester Super Ranger, Super X and Double X Magnum and Fiocchi in #2 to #7½ and BB, Fiocchi 00 and SSSG buckshot, Norma Whitetail slugs and buckshot, and .410 in 2 inch, 2½ inch and 3 inch from Fiocchi including the Silent subsonic loads and solid slugs.

Shotgun ammunition is a Category A item in NSW, so any NSW firearms licence that covers a shotgun lets you buy it; we sight the licence at the counter when you collect. Shotgun ammunition is collection from the store at Roseville Chase only; we do not post or courier it, and slabs are the cheapest way to buy per shot.

Prices start at $18 for a 10-pack of Fiocchi buckshot, $21 for a box of 25 SAGA Elite 28 gram target loads, $31 for Winchester Super Ranger field loads, $37 for Super X and $41 for Double X Magnum; .410 runs from $28 a box; clay target slabs of 250 are $155 (Winchester Super Target), $160 (Trust Trap and Skeet) and $170 to $208 (RC). Shotgun shells for clay target and field shooting in 12, 20 and 28 gauge and .410, covering target loads, game loads, steel and heavier field shot.

Shot size does most of the work. For trap and skeet, 7.5 and 8 shot in a light target load keeps recoil manageable across a long card. Sporting clays often wants 7.5 for the longer presentations. In the field, 6 and 7.5 suit quail and rabbit, while 4 and larger cover ducks and bigger game where legal. Check your state's non-toxic shot requirements for waterfowl before ordering, and confirm your gun is rated for steel through the chokes you intend to use.

Shotgun ammunition requires a current licence, verified before dispatch. Australia-wide delivery with tracking.

      Common questions

How much is 12 gauge ammo in Australia?
At Magnum Sports 12 gauge target loads start at $21 for 25 SAGA Elite and $155 to $208 for a slab of 250 (Winchester Super Target, Trust, RC); field loads are $31 (Winchester Super Ranger), $37 (Super X) and $41 (Double X Magnum) a box of 25; Fiocchi buckshot is $18 to $20 a 10-pack (September 2026).
What is the best shotgun load for foxes?
A 36 to 39 gram magnum load in BB or #4: Winchester Super X BB ($37) or Double X Magnum BB or #4 ($41) through a modified or full choke will anchor a fox to 40 metres. For rabbits and quail a 28 to 32 gram #6 or #7½ field load is plenty.
Can I buy buckshot and slugs in NSW?
Yes, with a licence that covers a shotgun; there is no separate permit for buckshot or slugs in NSW. We stock Fiocchi 00 and SSSG buckshot, Fiocchi .410 buckshot and slugs and Norma Whitetail 12 gauge slugs and 00 buckshot, which are the loads pig hunters use in close scrub.
Do I need a licence to buy shotgun shells in NSW?
Yes. NSW dealers may only sell ammunition to a licence holder whose licence covers that type of firearm, so a Category A (or higher) licence is required for shotgun ammunition. Bring it to the counter when you collect; ammunition is not posted.
Which shotgun ammunition is in stock?
Today: Trust Trap and Skeet, RC RC2 and RC4, Winchester Super Target, SAGA Elite, Winchester Super Ranger, Super X and Double X Magnum in #2, #4, #6, #7½ and BB, Fiocchi 12 gauge field loads and 00, SG and SSSG buckshot, Norma Whitetail slug and buckshot, and Fiocchi .410 in 2, 2½ and 3 inch including Silent and solid loads. 20 and 28 gauge are ordered in on request.
