The Sierra 2277 is a 177 grain 30 calibre (.308) MatchKing closed-nose hollow point boat tail, a match projectile for target shooters loading for the 308 Win, 30-06 and other 30 calibre cartridges. The 177 grain #2277 keeps the easy-to-tune character of the 175 grain MatchKing but adds a closed-nose meplat and other refinements to lift the G1 ballistic coefficient to 0.545, so existing 175 grain load data and die settings are a sensible starting point.

MatchKing jackets are drawn thin and held to very tight concentricity, with a small hollow point meplat that keeps weight and balance consistent from bullet to bullet. The closed-nose (CN) versions get a final pointing operation that closes the meplat for a higher ballistic coefficient than the standard open tip. They are a target design: Sierra does not recommend MatchKings for most hunting, and on varmints they will not open as reliably as the lighter-jacketed VarmintKing and BlitzKing bullets.
