A jacketed hollow cavity for the 45 ACP and 45 Colt, the 240 grain Sierra Sports Master #8820 is Sierra's expanding handgun bullet for field and range use. The 240 grain #8820 hollow cavity has a cannelure for roll crimping and suits 45 Colt revolvers and tubular-magazine rifles, and moderate 454 Casull loads up to about 1400 fps; older 45 Colt guns may have a .454 bore.

Sports Master bullets use Sierra's skived Power Jacket over a lead core, which opens reliably at handgun velocities while holding together for penetration; they are a sound choice for handgun hunting, silhouette and general target work in revolvers, pistols and pistol-calibre rifles. Sierra introduced this bullet in 1977.
