About the .22 WMR

The .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire has been the heavy-hitter of the rimfire family since 1959. It fires a 30 to 50 grain jacketed projectile at 1,500 to 2,200 fps, roughly doubling the energy of a .22 LR, and reaches out to 125 metres on pests with a usable trajectory.

It is the rimfire for shooters who want more authority than a .22 LR on rabbits and hares, and enough weight to anchor foxes and feral cats reliably at moderate range. Compared with the .17 HMR it carries a heavier projectile that holds up better in wind and on tougher pests, at the cost of a more curved trajectory. Many landholders keep one as the quiet all-rounder for around the sheds.

.22 WMR will not chamber in a .22 LR rifle and .22 LR must never be fired in a .22 WMR chamber, as the smaller case will split. It shares a bolt face and magazine with the .17 HMR, so most rifles are sold in both. Ammunition is dearer than .22 LR and the supply of premium loads is narrower.

We stock .22 WMR rifles from leading brands, hold CCI, Hornady and Winchester ammunition, and carry magazines and optics for rimfire work. Firearms are shipped Australia-wide to your nominated dealer.
