      Buying Lever Action Rifles in Australia

Rimfire lever guns suit plinking and small pests; .357 and .44 carbines are handy pig and scrub rifles; the Henry Long Ranger and Browning BLR bring lever-action handling to modern hunting calibres.

      In NSW a rimfire lever-action rifle is Category A and a centrefire lever-action rifle is Category B; lever-action rifles are not affected by the pending reclassification of straight-pull and pump-action rifles. Every firearm purchase in NSW needs a current licence in the right category and a Permit to Acquire (PTA) for that firearm; since 1 July 2026 a safe-storage inspection must be passed before a PTA is issued, and licences now run for a maximum of two years.
