Hornady Subsonic in 7.62x39mm is a 255 gr Sub-X load for medium game such as goats, pigs and deer. Hornady rates it at 1,050 ft/s from its test barrel with a G1 ballistic coefficient of .365. It suits shooters who want quiet, accurate ammunition below the speed of sound, suppressed or not.

Subsonic Rifle is loaded with the Sub-X bullet, which uses a lead core, long jacket grooves, a flat profile and a Flex Tip insert in the hollow point to expand reliably at low velocity. Powders are selected for subsonic use with a low flash signature, and the load does not carry the loud report of a supersonic round; paired with a suppressor it is quieter still.
